Breathing Together Paper, graphite, participation
2024

Breathing Together is a participatory work in which audience members are invited to contribute a personal inhale and exhale in line form, forming a collective representation of our breaths. We all breathe. We all share the same air and constantly touch each other through our breaths. The breath responds to fear, excitement, safety. The way we breathe reveals not only how we are responding to our environment and inner-world in a particular moment, but also reveals our personal history.  Trauma, anxiety, illness and a polluted environment can have long term affects on the breath. Many people are not able to breathe deeply. This work aims to be a space for reflection on the breath and how we are connected through it.

About Rachel Nord's interdisciplinary art practice is informed by her years working as an art therapist and her own health challenges. She is currently focused on exploring the relationship between the physical human body, AKA the individual, positioned amidst larger socio-ecological questions.
